Talk about an unlucky family! Imagine a situation were a general has to go to war to get back his sister-in-law and to top it all comes back with a young slave girl, to find a murderous wife who is  seeking revenge for the death of their daughter.

That is the starting point for Agamemnon, Theatre Anon’s latest creation, which brings together texts by Steven Berkoff and Ted Hughes inspired by the original text of Aeschylus.

For generations, the God-defying descendants of Tantalus committed unspeakable crimes that cried out for revenge: brother against brother, father against son, father against daughter, son against mother…and on it goes without an end-the curse on the house of Atreus. Blood will inevitably feed on more blood.

Agamemnon is about being caught between a rock and a hard place.  The Gods demand the King destroys the thing he loves most- a sacrifice that poisons the heart.  Agamemnon is about ambition, love, hurt, desire and conflict in our everyday lives. It also introduces the first important feminist in western theatre: Clytemnestra, a character which has inspired admiration and revulsion in equal measures.

Theatre Anon present a touching, innovative and emotionally driven performance. Paul Portelli directs a strong cast which includes well known actors and musicians: Toni Attard, Marie Claire Camilleri, Edward Cauchi, Kurt Castillo, Edward Debono, Miriam Galea, Albert Garzia, Charlotte Grech, Edward Mercieca, Sandra Mifsud, Liliana Portelli, Jes Psaila, Michela Spiteri, Renzo Spiteri, Sarah Spiteri and Pierre Stafrace in an exciting visual production that includes original songs and music, puppetry, aerial stunts and dance

Agamemnon will be performed between 10 and 12 March 2006 at the MITP, St Christopher Street, Valletta. Booking opens on 16th February from St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity. Tickets can be booked by phone on 21223216 or email at boxoffice@sjcav.org
